Stacks Dinner and Delicatessen Coming Soon to the Old Mill District

Bend’s dining scene is about to get a delicious new addition. Cheri and Steve Helt, the powerhouse duo behind Zydeco Kitchen & Cocktails, are expanding their culinary footprint with Stacks Dinner and Delicatessen. The Pacific Northwest–inspired deli and restaurant is slated to open this fall in the Old Mill District.

The new concept will sit right on Center Plaza, in the space formerly home to Gap Kids, offering a scratch-made menu you can enjoy inside, riverside on the patio, or grab-and-go style.

From Zydeco to Stacks

If the names sound familiar, it’s because the Helts have been shaping Bend’s dining scene for over 20 years with Zydeco, a downtown staple known for “casual, upscale American food with a Southern flair.” Zydeco has earned community awards, glowing reviews, and even a spotlight on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with Guy Fieri.

Now, the Helts, along with Chef Eric Joppie and the Zydeco management team, are bringing that same energy to the Old Mill.

What’s on the Menu?

Think New York City deli classics reimagined with Pacific Northwest ingredients. Expect house-cured and smoked meats, fresh fish, and farm-fresh vegetables. Signature dishes will include:

  • In-house cured pastrami and corned beef
  • Beet-cured salmon lox
  • Crispy latkes
  • Rotisserie-roasted meats

On top of that, you’ll be able to stock up on charcuterie, smoked fish, artisan cheeses, pickles, and farm-fresh salads — all by the pound.

Our team is excited to bring the traditional style of a New York City deli and combine it with the farm-fresh ingredients of the Pacific Northwest,” says co-owner Steve Helt.

A New Gathering Place in the Old Mill

With its prime location overlooking the Deschutes River and the pedestrian bridge, Stacks will be more than just a deli. Guests can grab a quick sandwich, linger over dinner, sip a drink with friends, or bring home a fine-dining-quality meal. The vibe? A lively, European-style spot where you get to choose your own dining adventure.

Old Mill District marketing director Beau Eastes calls it “another home run” for the Helts:

They’ve already helped shape Bend’s dining scene, and this new deli’s going to be another go-to gathering place for both locals and visitors.

Opening Soon

Construction of Stacks Dinner and Delicatessen is already underway with the help of SunWest Builders and a team of local tradespeople, with hopes to open before the holidays.

quote

I wanted to share more than where to eat, but what to eat. And not just what, but why? From where is the food resourced? Should it be paired with a beer, or a cocktail—and what kind? But most importantly, share the faces and tell the stories behind the people who make it all happen, showing support for small business in and around Bend.
