A Guide to The Grove: Bend’s Popular Market Hall

It’s no secret that food carts dominate the food scene in Bend and Central Oregon. But what if you could enjoy a food cart lot-style dining experience… inside? Enter, the Market Hall at The Grove in Bend.

Modeled after popular marketplaces in food epicenters like Seattle, San Francisco, and Napa, The Grove’s smaller-scale gathering hub offers communal seating and gathering with a combined nine counters, bars, and markets serving everything from Boba tea and coffee to Thai and Mediterranean cuisines, respectively.

Courtesy Grove Bend

Situated in the heart of Northwest Crossing, the Market Hall anchors The Grove’s block-wide buildings. Year-round, locals and visitors flock to diverse restaurant counters and food options, allowing everyone to choose their own cuisine du jour.

Here, we’ll cover each corner of The Grove and highlight menus, favorite dishes, seasonal specials, and community events.

Thump Coffee

Take your coffee to go or hang out at The Grove with a cup of specialty coffee from Thump. All drinks are made with Thump’s in-house roasted beans, like Storm King, North Fork, and Ethiopia Natural. The Grove’s Market Hall is the third location for Thump Coffee in Bend.

Thump’s coffee shop offers housemade pastries from their nearby (just a few blocks away!) roastery and bakery. A popular gathering hub, Thump’s corner spot at The Grove is great for networking groups, doing a little remote work, or catching up with friends.

What we love

Spicy Mayan Mocha. This twist on Mexican hot chocolate will warm you up with its harmonious blend of espresso, cocoa, and spices.

Open: Daily from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Good Egg

Breakfast just got more exciting with the addition of Good Egg! As The Grove’s newest food counter, Good Egg brings a fun twist to your typical breakfast sandwich.

Inspired by iconic Asian breakfast street sandwiches served across Southeast Asia, Good Egg in Bend serves loaded sandwiches on brioche stuffed with fluffy scrambled eggs and savory additions.

Indulge in Asian varieties like beef Bulgogi and tofu katsu. Or, go for fried chicken with Good Egg’s signature mayo. Gluten-free friends can enjoy loaded breakfast tots with scrambled eggs and Good Egg sauce.

What we love

Spicy Korean Pork. Good Egg’s classic sandwich with spicy BBQ pork, fluffy eggs, kimchi, cilantro, and signature mayo.

Open: Daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Waypoint BBC

Call them the pioneers of The Grove’s Market Hall, if you will. Waypoint BBC, a spin-off from Bend Brewing Co., was the first spot to open at The Grove during its construction.

The vibe at Waypoint BBC is modern and industrial yet cozy and welcoming. With outdoor patio fire pits and intimate two-seater booths, it’s easy to snuggle up with a seasonal cocktail after a day on the slopes—casual enough for post-hike sipping, but chic enough for a pre-dinner cocktail or date.

Now, these are not your grandmother’s cocktails. Think libations with mixers like lavender, lychee, and serrano. Carajillo by Morning serves a spin on the classic espresso martini with tequila, vanilla, and cinnamon, while the Cultivar combines spicy vodka, Cachaça, elderflower, grapefruit, and marionberry. Come for Locals’s Day on Tuesday, stay for the weekday happy hour from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

What we love

Good as Gold. Sip on this seasonal cocktail of bourbon, lavender, orange blossom, honey, and lemon while bundled up around the fire pit with friends, or enjoy it as a grown-up dessert after dinner at one of The Grove’s restaurant counters.

Jackson’s Outpost (Jackson’s Corner)

One of Bend’s staple restaurants has an “express” counter in The Grove, serving their signature pizza, pasta, and salads. You’ll find Jackson’s Corner’s scratch-made, locally sourced dishes for both lunch and dinner, including their signature sourdough pizza and hand-rolled pasta.

Pizza is covered with jalapenos and honey

What’s better, you can grab pizza by the slice for a quick lunch, get your favorite pasta dish made gluten-free, and turn any of their signature salads into a wrap. Plus, Jackson’s offers a dedicated kids’ menu for smaller portions of pasta and snacks.

What we love

Steak Sandwich. Served hot, this steak sandwich is sourced beef from local Pitchfork T Ranch and served over a Sparrow hoagie with blue cheese mayo, grilled onions, mozzarella, and fresh arugula.

Open: Daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Shimshon x Barrio

Two Bend favorites come together to combine their flavors from the Mediterranean to Mexico. Shimshon, known for its Israeli street food offerings, serves a menu that combines plates from the original food cart with its sibling food cart, Barrio.

We’re talking chicken shawarma tacos, warm stuffed pita with your choice of protein, and green chile Caesar salad.

Savory sides like fried plantains with Tajín and mango sauce pair excellently with any dish, and desserts like the chocolate chip tahini cookie and churros with chocolate sauce offer a sweet finale. Colder months will feature specialty soups and weekday specials from 3-5 p.m.

What we love

Barrio Burger. East meats West with this Waygu beef burger! Served on a Sparrow bun, it’s loaded with bacon-tomato jam, pickled red onions, feta cheese, chile aioli, leafy greens, and a side of za’atar fries. Still, it’s a toss-up, with the chicken shwarma tacos coming in at a very close second fave.

One of the best ways to savor ThaiPas offerings is to choose a few courses, like pineapple fried rice and Pad Kee Mao (drunken noodles), and share with friends to get a taste of everything.

What we love

Pad Kapow Gai Kai Doa (spicy Thai basil stir-fry). Chicken or pork stir-fry with bell pepper, onions, Thai basil, and fresh chili, all topped with a fried egg.

Open: Daily from 11:30 to 8 p.m.

Phở Viet & Cafe

What better way to cozy up this fall and winter than with a huge bowl of Phở? Long-standing Phở Viet & Cafe recently expanded with a Phở and boba tea bar inside The Grove Market Hall, serving dozens of tea varieties, soup, and Bánh Mì.

If you’re new to Boba (like we were), here’s how it works:

Start with your drink preference, such as smoothie, milk tea, or fruit tea. Then, choose your flavor like peach smoothie, blueberry lemonade, or lavender milk tea, etc. Finally, pick your Boba! These chewy tapioca pearls include flavors like green apple pops, pomegranate pops, and kiwi pops.

What we love

Iced matcha milk tea with sweet boba. It’s great on a warm or cold day and can be made hot if you need cozying up. Of course, this goes great with their Bun Bo Hue (spicy beef and pork Phở bowl).

Open: Tuesday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

quote

I wanted to share more than where to eat, but what to eat. And not just what, but why? From where is the food resourced? Should it be paired with a beer, or a cocktail—and what kind? But most importantly, share the faces and tell the stories behind the people who make it all happen, showing support for small business in and around Bend.
