The Phoenix Restaurant has been a cornerstone of Bend’s culinary scene, known for its diverse menu and welcoming atmosphere. Patrons have enjoyed everything from hearty breakfasts to gourmet dinners, making it a go-to for many.

While the specifics remain undisclosed, a combination of economic challenges and evolving market conditions likely played a role. The restaurant industry has faced significant hurdles, especially in recent years, and The Phoenix is no exception.

The news has been met with a mix of sadness and nostalgia. Regulars reminisce about their favorite dishes and memorable moments spent at the restaurant. Social media is abuzz with heartfelt tributes from patrons, highlighting the impact of The Phoenix closing.

Official Statement

The Phoenix released this statement via their Facebook page:

“With the most heartfelt sadness we are announcing that The Phoenix Restaurant will be closing soon, after almost 15 years. There were many factors in this decision; rising costs, lease negotiations, new ventures, but the one thing that was never a factor was the community support. We were humbled and grateful every day to unlock our doors to a waiting crowd. (Literally!) The community in Bend never wavered in coming through our doors, through all the economic ups and downs, through COVID, you were all there every single day and we can’t thank you enough.

To our staff, most of whom have been with us for 10+ years, you are all the reason we kept on thriving as long as we did. I have no doubt we will have life long friendships and I know you will all find incredible opportunities out there in the coming months. Love you all! (Bend restaurants – please reach out for recommendations, we have some of the best in town! )

We will keep you posted on a final close date. In the mean time, please come see us in the coming weeks/months to support our staff, give us a hug and say goodbye. Thank you!”

As the community comes to terms with this loss, the focus shifts to supporting other local businesses that continue to enrich Bend’s vibrant dining landscape. The Phoenix closing serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting local establishments, particularly in challenging times. On the contrary, it spotlights the several businesses and events in Bend that have shuttered over the past year.

For those looking to relive their Phoenix memories, the restaurant’s legacy will undoubtedly live on in the hearts of its loyal customers.

Nancy Patterson of Eat Drink Bend takes a picture of beer on a table outside in Bend, Oregon.

I wanted to share more than where to eat, but what to eat. And not just what, but why? From where is the food resourced? Should it be paired with a beer, or a cocktail—and what kind? But most importantly, share the faces and tell the stories behind the people who make it all happen, showing support for small business in and around Bend.
